St Neots New Town Mayor releases press statement

“I am very conscious of the honour and privilege that my Council colleges have given me in electing me Mayor of St Neots for the coming year and I will be working very hard to continue the standard my predecessor and indeed my predecessors have set.  Whilst the Town Council has achieved many things over the last two years, such as refurbishing the South Street lavatories, running the largest and most successful Queen’s jubilee celebrations in the area, improved the cemetery extension and taken burials in house together with improving and extending play areas and generally keeping  the town neat and tidy, the Council will not rest on its laurels however and we intend to make the Loves Farm Community Centre a priority and discussions to take the whole thing over have started with Huntingdonshire District Council.

We will endeavour to increase the footfall at the Priory Centre and at the Eatons community centre and to continue improvements already started.  There are still many initiatives to start bringing to the fore and I will be promoting these as often as possible.  One of my many aims is to convince H.D.C. planners together with developers that employment needs are essential to the town.  Both seem to be concentrating on the Alconbury Enterprise scheme and as huge and important as it is to the district my main concern is to reduce the outward commuting from St Neots.  Areas of development in St Neots put aside for employment have consequently been changed and houses built instead.  I will be campaigning strongly for that not to happen in the new development in Wintringham Park south of Loves Farm.  Those industrial buildings that have been built or become vacant within St Neots have very quickly been taken up or reoccupied which tells me that there is indeed a need and a science park type development in Wintringham Park would, I believe, be a great asset.  Full employment and a thriving high street are among my aims.

I will also work closely with and support youth organisations and the mentally & physically disadvantaged children groups and schools.  I have many other ideas and desires for the town but I will temper my enthusiasm so that I can achieve my aims for the organisations and charities I have already mentioned.”
